{"id":1297,"date":"2023-01-01T23:44:35","date_gmt":"2023-01-01T23:44:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/doogle.com\/?p=1297"},"modified":"2023-03-13T16:38:12","modified_gmt":"2023-03-13T16:38:12","slug":"drugs-and-addictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doogle.com\/index.php\/2023\/01\/01\/drugs-and-addictions\/","title":{"rendered":"Drugs and Addictions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It might seem a bit strange having articles on doogle.com about truth, religion, belief and faith &#8211; and at the same time a section dedicated to addictions.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there is a very strong connection between the two:<br>&#8211; Both offer an alternative version of reality<br>&#8211; Both are a mindset which is \u2018true\u2019 to the individual but seems obviously false to the casual observer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t believe us? Well, how many times have you seen someone \u2018under the influence\u2019 and thought \u201cI wish I was like them?\u201d. They may think they\u2019re having a great time but you can see they\u2019re not. Likewise, circular logic and reverse reasoning can mean you talk with someone about their faith but they\u2019re not really interested since they\u2019ve made up their mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With drugs or alcohol, as you go through life, the perceived benefit from a drug goes down whilst the addiction goes up. Tolerance requires more of the drug, and the person requires more to get the same perceived benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/doogle.com\/GSAP\/01_GraphAddiction\/AddictionBenefits.html\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\" width: 650px; height: 300px;  border: none; overflow: hidden;\" ><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The steepness of the lines depends on the drug and the individual, but the lines always are the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time the paths cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens when the lines cross?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Well at this point \u2018life goes pear-shaped\u2019 and the person believes they need the drug but the benefits by now are just an illusion. The \u2018good times\u2019 they had early on have gone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you see an advert for gambling and it says \u2018when the fun stops &#8211; stop\u2019, well, it would have stopped a long time ago. When you see a man on the street homeless and think \u2018it could never be me\u2019, thank goodness it isn\u2019t &#8211; but the same person may have thought the exact same thing only a few years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All things in moderation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A common response is to say \u2018all things in moderation\u2019. This is fine for some &#8211; maybe they\u2019re one of the lucky ones, life just dealt them better cards. It could be they\u2019re just earlier in the same process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But for some, an addiction grows in the same way as you get old. There\u2019s no noticeable change from day to day but there\u2019s no going back to being young.
